Questions and Answers about the Name Change
Why the name change?
The short of it: “Employee Screenings Services of Missouri” no longer accurately describes our geographic coverage nor what we do! We are focused on being leaders in drug testing, so our name should reflect that.
The long of it: Missouri-based clients historically hired ESS primarily for employment-related testing to ensure compliance, safety, prevention and well-being in the workplace. Our growth and updated structure have enabled services to be provided on a nationwide level (our largest client requires monthly testing services in 42 states). Our client experience has also drawn the attention of other industries and entities where drug and alcohol testing is of interest. ESS now serves more than 120 schools with random student drug testing (RSDT) programs and recently entered the world of “forensic” or court-ordered testing, which includes programs such as probation and parole, division of family and children services, drug courts, and more.
What is Tomo?
Tomo is a shortening of the word “tomorrow.” We are passionate about making every day and every interaction count. This is reflected in our desire to create raving fans both inside and outside of our company through an unexpected level of service. Tomorrow is not guaranteed, so MAKE TODAY COUNT!
We’ve always called it ESS, does Tomo have an acronym too?
No, Tomo doesn’t have an acronym…but it is one syllable shorter than saying, “E-S-S”!
What is the meaning of the logo?
We feel drug and alcohol testing involves a commitment between three parties: Tomo, Client and Individual. Each party carries responsibilities to ensure the success of a drug and alcohol testing program.
Tomo’s role includes:
- All i’s dotted and t’s crossed to guarantee compliance with federal and state regulations
- Providing trained, qualified and professional collection technicians that are available where clients need
- Providing comprehensive and customized testing solutions
- And an intense effort to make drug testing a surprisingly enjoyable experience for all involved.
The client role includes providing a safe and productive workplace through drug and alcohol testing, and care and concern for employees, individuals and their loved ones by offering testing programs that prevent drug and alcohol use or abuse.
The individual is primarily called upon to recognize the harmful effects that drug and alcohol use or abuse has not only on their own wellbeing, but also on the lives of fellow co-workers, loved-ones or those in the community that could be impacted by their decisions.

Is ESS under new leadership?
No, the same great leaders who served you under the name “Employee Screening Services” are still with the company! We are also excited to report that we have nearly 200 cumulative years of service among all managers and staff!
Does Tomo have a new vision or direction?
Our company is working hard to enhance our clients’ experience through 1) simplified services and testing processes, 2) improved service availability through regional and national relationships and the addition of forensic testing capabilities, and 3) intensified focus on customer satisfaction. As a result, we have gained greater clarity on our capabilities and are excited by the opportunities that are before us!
Does Tomo Drug Testing mean you ONLY do drug testing now?
No way! Tomo Drug Testing, although a better clarification of our services, is not all-inclusive. Tomo still offers educational training for supervisors and employees, comprehensive program management (from scheduling to results) and alcohol testing too!
